The 3Ds were an alternative pop/rock band based from Dunedin, New Zealand, together from 1988 to 1997. The band was formed in May 1988 by

Dominic Stones — drums, Denise Roughan — bass, keyboards, tambourine, vocals David Saunders — guitar, vocals The band's name referred to the members names all starting with "D". In 1989 they were joined by another "D",

David Mitchell — guitar, mandolin, vocalsThe 3Ds were the biggest ‘third wave’ Flying Nun band, formed by musicians from earlier Flying Nun groups. Starting out in Dunedin in 1988, they recorded three albums and several EPs, the best-known being The Venus Trail (1993). They achieved worldwide critical and commercial success, and toured extensively overseas from 1992-95.
