About

A firm with roots — and reach.

Steven and Eviana Martin, founding partners of Martin Law FirmMartin Law Firm is what happens when a family business meets a roster of specialists. Steven and Eviana Martin founded the firm in Cape Coral in 2006 as a husband-and-wife practice. Two decades later, it’s a seven-attorney firm serving Lee, Collier, Charlotte, and Sarasota counties — but the operating principle hasn’t changed: real lawyers, who answer their phones, handling the legal problems that show up in real life.

What sets the firm apart is the range of backgrounds inside it.

Steven Martin brings courtroom instinct shaped by an unusual second career — early-internet entrepreneurship and film composition before the law. Eviana Martin immigrated from Latvia, earned her J.D. at the University of Florida, and built one of the busiest consumer-bankruptcy practices on the Gulf Coast. Both have served as President of the Cape Coral Bar Association.

Around them, Steven and Eviana have built a deliberately specialized bench:

  • Jonathan Bierfeld practices bankruptcy exclusively — Chapter 7, Chapter 13, and the small-business reorganizations that keep family enterprises alive.
  • Dustin Butler, a UF Levin cum laude graduate, takes the family law and estate planning matters that ask most of a lawyer’s judgment: divorces with children, blended-family wills, the things that touch every other part of a client’s life.
  • William Gates, an Ave Maria graduate, anchors the firm’s civil litigation, estate planning, and probate work.
  • Lisa Gelman is an elder-law attorney whose pro bono work for vulnerable seniors has been formally recognized — and is part of how the firm thinks about its obligations to the community.
  • Matthew Stauffer is a decorated Army Special Forces veteran who now practices real property, civil litigation, and constitutional law. Clients facing an opposing party with deeper pockets tend to be glad he’s on their side.

A Latvian immigrant. A Special Forces veteran. A film composer turned trial lawyer. An elder-law advocate. A bankruptcy specialist. Two cum laude graduates. It’s an unusual lineup for a firm of seven — and it means that when a case lands at Martin Law Firm, the lawyer assigned to it is genuinely the right one for that case, not whoever has the bandwidth.

Over twenty years, the firm has handled thousands of bankruptcy filings, recovered millions for personal injury clients, written estate plans for thousands of Southwest Florida families, and represented clients in probate, family law, civil litigation, and guardianship matters. We provide pro bono legal services to qualified individuals in Lee and Collier counties and to community organizations across Southwest Florida.

If you have a problem in any of these areas, the right lawyer for it is already at this firm.
