Jonathan Bierfeld is a partner at Martin Law Firm whose entire practice is bankruptcy: Chapter 7 liquidation, Chapter 13 reorganization, and Chapter 11 business restructuring. He represents individuals, families, and small business owners across Lee, Collier, Charlotte, and Sarasota counties in matters ranging from credit-card-and-medical-bill consumer cases to multi-creditor commercial reorganizations.
Jonathan came to law via public service. After graduating from Duke University with a degree in economics and public policy, he worked on Capitol Hill in the offices of Senator Elizabeth Dole and Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. That exposure to federal economic policy shaped his interest in consumer protection law, and he returned to his native Miami for his J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law, where he was active in the Hispanic Law Students Association.
In nearly fifteen years of practice he has handled the means test, the automatic stay, foreclosure defense, wage garnishment defense, mortgage modification, and creditor harassment under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
