Incident
Officer George Gresham was shot and killed by a suspect while on foot patrol at 18th Street and Terry Street in Fort Worth at 7:45 p.m. The suspect had been chased out of the neighborhood the previous night after firing shots. While Officer Gresham was on patrol, he spotted the man crouching behind a pole. When he shined his flashlight on the man, the suspect opened fire, fatally wounding him. On February 9, 1921, a suspect was apprehended in New Mexico; returned to Fort Worth and charged with murder. Days later, the charges were dismissed due to insufficient evidence. The case was never solved. Officer Gresham had served with the Fort Worth Police Department for 11 years.
