Add The New York Post on Google There was a point where a friend asked me if I owned anything besides lululemon.
The answer was yes — of course I do — but I also end up living in my lululemon outfits more than anything else in my closet, so I couldn’t blame her for noticing that I have a bit of an obsession.
Here’s the simple explanation: I love working out and lead a pretty active life between hopping around New York City, hitting the gym and chasing after a very energetic toddler, so finding unrestricted, comfortable outfits for all-day wear is an absolute must.
And, the second reason: lululemon pieces are stylish and streamlined, so it’s easier to achieve a more polished, put-together look without working up a sweat while rummaging through the closet at 7 A.M.
With my lululemon sets, I don’t have to think twice about what to wear when I throw these pieces on — I can just step out in confidence and comfort. In that sense, shopping from the brand makes my life that much easier.
And the selection is so wide that I can practically find something for all my needs — whether I’m looking for a staple piece to throw over my gym gear, a comfortable bra I can wear all day long, a pair of shorts that can carry me through summer or breathable leggings for a little more coverage.
Here are my favorite everyday staples from lululemon — pieces I’ve lived in, sweated in, washed, worn and fully put through the demands of city life, and they’ve all held up beautifully.
The Define Jacket sells itself, but if anything made me love it even more, it’s the cropped length and new colorways. At this point, it comes in so many shades you’ll want to collect them all. My latest obsession is the Walnut Crunch, along with the brighter, neon-inspired colors that just dropped for summer.
Lightweight and effortlessly stylish, it works just as well as a gym cover-up as it does as part of an everyday outfit. Pair it with leggings for a workout. Or, throw it on with jeans or joggers for a polished casual look. I’ve worn it both ways, and plenty more and it never feels out of place.
It’s the kind of staple piece everyone should have in their closet for those inevitable “Oh no, what do I wear?” moments.
Miska Salemann lululemon says the Define Jacket “skims your body,” but that’s an understatement. This jacket offers a serious snatching effect that is universally flattering and comfortable. It hugs your curves without digging into the skin. And it does fit close to the body, so if you want a looser fit, I’d suggest sizing up.
All of the thoughtful details are equally impressive. A zipper garage helps prevent chafing, while thumbholes and Cuffins keep sleeves in place and help keep the cold out. There’s even a locker loop for easy hanging. And the zippered pockets provide ample storage space.
Another bonus: I’ve been able to wear it multiple times before needing to wash it, and it still looks fresh and wrinkle-free.
Described by lululemon as “a treat for the senses,” the Nulu and Mesh No Line High-Rise Studio Tights have quickly become a staple in my closet.
After a week of wearing them through intense workout classes, errands around the city and plenty of time spent chasing my toddler around, I can confidently say they’re built to keep up with daily life — and will help you look and feel your best while doing it.
Unlike some other lululemon styles, these tights skip the front seam, creating a more flattering silhouette. The combination of smooth, ribbed and mesh fabrics also adds some visual appeal, elevating what could otherwise be a basic pair of workout leggings.
Miska Salemann It’s clear that lululemon designed these tights with summer in mind. Ultralight mesh panels at the calves provide breathability, while the quick-drying fabric keeps you cool and comfortable — even on 90-degree days. And, the four-way stretch gently follows your curves, without constraining movement. And, they hit right above the ankles for optimal coverage.
Another key feature I love: There’s a well-placed hidden waistband pocket that fits a key or card, and even when I’m using it, I can barely tell it’s there. No poking or prodding detected.
One minor thing to note: In my experience, lululemon sizing tends to run small, so I often size up. That wasn’t the case here. I found these leggings fit true to size, if not slightly roomier than expected.
Full disclosure: when I saw that this was a light-support bra, I was a bit skeptical. I’m pretty active and enjoy my higher-impact workouts, so I usually look for sports bras with more protection and structure.
But for lower-impact days, yoga, Pilates and the occasional stroll around town, I was looking for something softer, gentler and more comfortable on my skin. That’s where the Flow Y Bra Nulu really shines.
According to the brand, this bestselling style delivers “weightless comfort” with a “distraction-free design” — and I’d say that’s an accurate description.
Miska Salemann Made from lululemon’s famously soft Nulu fabric (which blends nylon, elastane and COOLMAX polyester) it feels buttery smooth and is comfortable enough to wear all day long. It also glides easily on the skin, so it’s easier to take on and off than some other bulkier sports bras.
I’m not usually a fan of removable padding, but in this case, it actually comes in handy. Pockets for optional cups allow for more tailored coverage. If you’re lounging at home, you can take the cups out for a more relaxed feel. If you want a little extra support, simply slip them back in.
The Flow Y Bra may have converted me to the low-impact sports bra club. That said, if you prefer a more secure, held-in feel, I would consider sizing down. Because the bra doesn’t feature adjustable straps, those with smaller frames may want to factor that into their sizing decision.
The ultimate summer must-have: a pair of shorts that feel like they’re barely there, yet still manage to stay in place. Lululemon clearly understood the assignment with the ultra-breathable Align No Line High-Rise Shorts. They don’t ride up your thigh, yet still offer excellent superior comfort and shape retention.
I typically avoid mid-thigh shorts because they tend to hit at an awkward spot and dig into my thighs, but that’s not the case with these. They come in three different lengths, so you can choose the perfect amount of coverage for your needs. I’m on the shorter side, and the 6-inch version fits me perfectly.
Miska Salemann With the Align No Line collection, lululemon also removed the front-rise seam for a “smooth, second-skin” feel — and they truly fit like a glove (without any visual distractions).
While they’re designed for lower-impact workouts, I’ve also jogged and lifted in them, and they’ve held up beautifully. One reviewer calls these shorts a “blessing” because no ride-up means no chafing—and I couldn’t agree more.
You’ll be just as happy wearing these to the gym as you would be running out for your morning coffee or curling up on the couch with a sweatshirt thrown over them.
