What Happened
Firefighter of the Fire Department of the City of New York, who died of an illness from the rescue and recovery at the World Trade Center. The department added the name to its World Trade Center Memorial Wall at the ceremony of 06 September 2023. He died on 27 November 2022, aged 65.
Biography
Firefighter John F. McDonnell, known as “Johnny Mac,” served for 30 years at Ladder 116 in Long Island City, Queens. After 9/11, he decided to stay on the job, as so many others were retiring, and he felt that the new and younger firefighters could use a senior man to help guide them. John was a wonderful husband to his wife of 30 years, Trish. He was a loving dad to his daughter, Meghan, and son, Patrick. He was a true brother to all his fellow firefighters and is greatly missed by all.
