What Happened
Mark T. Frese served the Davenport Fire Department for 37 years, from 10 June 1974 until he retired on 30 June 2011. He was named Chief of the department on 7 December 2000 and led it for more than ten years. He died unexpectedly at his home in Davenport on 25 September 2026.
Survivors
Preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Michele Fox and Theresa Spooner; and his in-laws Patrick and Marie DeVine. Survived by his wife Sue DeVine; his children Racquel, Nicole, Derrick, Emma and Quinn; seven grandchildren; his brother Pat; and his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Biography
Born in Rock Island, Illinois, on 6 April 1950 to Glen and Rosemary (McEvoy) Frese, he graduated from Assumption High School in 1968. Off duty he ran a construction company with Jim Carthey, worked as a roadie for his brother Pat's band, the Night People, and built floats for the St. Patrick Society Parade. He married Sue DeVine in St. Lucia on 19 May 2000.
