What Happened
David S. Briggs served the Scotia Fire Department from July 1989 until he retired as a Captain in April 2013. He led his union, the Scotia Permanent Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 842, as both President and Vice President, served as a Schenectady County Fire Investigator, and was instrumental in building the department's Water Rescue Program. His public service began in the volunteer fire service and continued at KAPL before Scotia. He died at home in Glenville of occupational cancer related to 30 years in the fire service.
Survivors
Predeceased by his parents, Vernon and Carole Briggs. Survived by his brother William Briggs; his life partner Peggy Mocny; his children Scott Briggs (Lauren), Stephanie Halcomb (Michael), Jacob Briggs (Kasey), Erin Mocny (Joshua) and Brianne DeLuca (Christopher); and his grandchildren Aubree, Jasper, Adeline, Lucas, Olivia, Konrad and Jackson.
Biography
Born in Albany in 1961 and adopted by Vernon and Carole Briggs, he attended Scotia-Glenville High School and Schenectady County Community College. An avid outdoorsman, he hunted, fished and hiked, and most of all loved time with his grandchildren.
