Incident

Undersheriff Veach was accidentally shot and killed by a fellow officer during a shootout with horse thieves. The two deputies had gone to Basin to arrest the men when the shootout erupted. It was determined at a coroner's inquest that the fatal round to Undersheriff Veach came from the other deputy's gun. The suspect who shot at the deputies was also shot and killed. Undersheriff Veach had served with the agency for over 4 years.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife and two children.
