Incident

Police Officer Charles Gudgell was struck and killed by an automobile as he was directing traffic at 8th Street and Grand Avenue.

The 18-year-old driver said he became confused at Officer Gudgell's signals and in trying to pass another vehicle ran over the officer. Officer Gudgell, whose chest was crushed, died at the scene. The driver was charged with manslaughter.

Rest in peace always knowing that your service and sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.
