Incident

Deputy Sheriff Burlie Duvall was killed at a crash scene on Route 460 west of Cabin Field Road in Campbell County around 5:33 p.m.

Deputy Duvall and another deputy were traveling from the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy when they approached a crash. They activated their emergency lights and parked in the left lanes to help at the scene. A tractor-trailer swerved to avoid the emergency vehicles and struck Deputy Duvall. Deputy Duvall died at the scene.

Seven additional people were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputy Duvall served with the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office.
