Incident

Justice of the Peace Meredith was shot and killed in Gainesville while attempting to arrest a man for disturbing the peace.

The suspect shot Justice Meredith several times and then fled the scene.

The suspect turned himself in several days later. He was convicted of Justice Meredith's murder, sentenced to death, and executed on February 6th, 1923.

Justice Meredith was survived by his wife.
