Incident
Nolan Buckhanan was on picket duty when the shotgun he was cleaning accidentally discharged and killed him at 3:00 pm.
Buckhanan was a United States World War II Army veteran and had served as a guard at the Eastham Prison Farm in Weldon, Houston County, by the Texas Department of Corrections (present-day Texas Department of Criminal Justice).
Survivors
He was survived by his wife, son, daughter, mother, stepfather, three half-brothers, and five grandchildren.
