Incident

Deputy Sheriff Rebecca Shaw was killed when her patrol car was struck by a Union Pacific Railroad freight train at the Becker Road crossing just south of U.S. 290 while she was on routine patrol. She was crossing a set of railroad tracks that had no barricades when her patrol car was struck and dragged more than 25 yards. She was airlifted to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Deputy Shaw had served with the Harris County Sheriff's Office for 14 years. She is survived by her husband, four children, and four grandchildren. Her husband also served with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
