Incident
Deputy Sheriff George Robinson was killed around 5:10 a.m. in an accident when his patrol car collided with a mule as he responded to an emergency call. The collision caused his car to leave the roadway along Highway 174 just 0.6 of a mile north of Cleburn City limits. The car landed in some other nearby wrecked cars, causing it to not be easily seen. After Deputy Robinson failed to respond to radio calls other deputies were sent to search for him. The accident scene was found several hours later with Deputy Robinson having suffered a massive head injury. Deputy Robinson had served with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office for only a few months. He was survived by his wife, son, and daughter. His son, Sergeant Robert Glenwood Robinson of the Corsicana, Texas Police Department, was killed in the line of duty in 1962.
