Sergeant Barbara Shumate was killed in an automobile accident when her department pickup truck hit the rear of a dump truck that was stopped in the 400 block of FM Road 2821 in Walker County, Texas.
Sergeant Shumate had served with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice - Correctional Institutions Division for 10 years.

She is survived by her son, daughter, and mother.
