Incident
Detective Davis was shot and killed while attempting to disperse a crowd of men with another detective near the intersection of Andrews Street and Genesee Street. One of the suspects fled and Detective Davis pursued him when the man shot Detective Davis in the head and shoulder as he turned the corner onto Robin Street. Detective Davis was able to return fire striking the suspect before he collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds the following morning. The suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting and taken to the hospital to be treated for his wounds. The next day while being watched by hospital security a group of men kidnapped the suspect. The incident was immediately reported to Houston Police and a search was initiated by Houston Police Department and the Harris County District Attorney's Office. The suspect was found lynched the next morning about eight miles outside the city of Houston. Detective Davis served with the Houston Police Department for six years.
