Incident

Field Inspector George Grissom and Constable James Green of the Donley County Constable's Office - Precinct 2 were shot and killed in Clarendon, Texas while conducting an investigation along with the Potter County sheriff.

They had entered a saloon on Kearney Street at 6:20 am and encountered two men whose brother had been sent to prison by Constable Bell. The subject held a grudge against Constable Bell and opened fire on him, fatally wounding him and Inspector Grissom.

Despite being mortally wounded, Constable Bell returned fire and killed one of the subjects. The second was arrested and charged with murder.

Inspector Grissom was buried in the Bolivar Cemetery in Sanger in Denton County. It is unknown if he was survived by a wife or children. He was one month shy of his 36th birthday.
