Incident

Patrolman Woodrow Nalley was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Liberty Drive.

He and his partner stopped the vehicle after recognizing the driver and knowing that he had a suspended license. Patrolman Nalley spoke to the man for several minutes before calling city hall to see if a bondsman was still working. He then returned to the car to accompany the man to pay a bond. As Patrolman Nalley opened the car's door the man opened fire with a .38 caliber pistol, fatally wounding him.

The subject then shot at patrolman Nalley's partner before driving home. He committed suicide after arriving at home.

Patrolman Nalley had served with the Easley Police Department for six years.
