Incident
Sheriff Fant was accidentally shot and killed while arresting a man for disposing of property under lien. As Sheriff Fant attempted to place the man in his patrol car the man began to resist and grabbed the roof of the car. In an attempt to make the man release his grip, Sheriff Fant struck his hands with the butt of his revolver. The gun discharged and a round struck Sheriff Fant in the abdomen, killing him.
