Incident
Agent Ramon Galarza-Torres was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on Highway 2 near Aguada, Puerto Rico, at approximately 5:00 am. He had stopped a vehicle and was preparing to arrest the driver for DUI when the man suddenly produced a .25 caliber handgun and fatally shot him. A passing citizen used Agent Galarza-Torres' radio to call for assistance as the subject fled the scene. The subject was arrested based on information that Agent Galarza-Torres had broadcast over the radio during the stop. The man was charged with first degree murder, firearms charges, and DUI. He was sentenced to life in prison. Agent Galarza-Torres was assigned to Transit Division Station C in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
