Incident
Private Stewart was shot and killed during a sting operation against the "Black Hand Society". After a blackmail threat, $10,000 was placed in a decoy box. Private Stewart approached a passerby for questioning. The stranger pulled a gun and fired three shots at him. Private Stewart was able to return fire, killing the suspect. Private Stewart had served with the Pennsylvania State Police for 13 months.
