Incident
Patrolman Henry Hanakas succumbed to gunshot wounds received four days earlier when he attempted to make an arrest at a domestic disturbance call at 1227 Whitlow Street in the Walnut Hills area of Cincinnati. The subject was hiding behind a door and attacked Patrolman Hanakas, disarming him. The man then shot him with the revolver. Despite the wounds, Patrolman Hanakas was able to fight the subject off with his nightstick, causing a deep laceration. Officer Hanakas had served with the agency for 23 1/2 years.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife, two daughters, and four sons.
