Incident

Deputy Sheriff Kieran Grant was shot and killed while serving an eviction notice at an apartment at 101 Southside Avenue in Hastings-on-Hudson. The subject shot him three times at close range, knocking him to the ground. The man then stood over him and shot him three more times in the back as he tried to crawl down the hallway. Because Deputy Kieran had planned to take the day off, he was unarmed at the time he went to serve the warrant and was unable to defend himself. The 39-year-old subject was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. He died in prison on July 6th, 2014, two weeks shy of his sixth parole hearing. Deputy Grant had served with the Westchester County Sheriff's Department for 18 years.
