Incident
Patrolman John Duffy was shot and killed during a five-block running gun battle with a burglary suspect. Patrolman Duffy and five other officers pursued a burglary suspect as he ran from a cigar store at 2nd Avenue and 92nd Street. During a five-block gun battle, one Patrolman was shot in the hand, Patrolman Duffy was killed, and the suspect was shot three times and seriously wounded. Patrolman Duffy had served with the New York City Police Department for 16 years and was assigned to the 23rd Precinct.
