Biography
Billy became a police officer in 1987 at the age of 20 years old when he joined the NYPD. During his time in the city, he served as a patrol officer on the street and then in both Anti-Crime and the SNU units. While at the NYPD he earned a Medal of Valor. In 1993 Billy switched departments to Nassau County Police where he remained until his passing. In 2004 while at NCPD Billy earned a Top Cop Award. He was also awarded the Cop of the Month award over half a dozen times for “Recognition of excellence and professionalism exhibited in the line of duty”. In addition, Billy earned numerous citations and recognitions for his work and dedication to the NCPD. In 2012, Billy was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and in 2016 he moved up to Lieutenant. Billy loved being a cop. It was who he was. He loved helping people and being able to both uphold the law as well as to be of assistance to those that needed him. In his youth, Billy was an avid runner. As an adult, he played on the NYPD rugby team and NCPD ice hockey team. He loved hockey and skiing. He especially loved teaching his kids to ski and attending many professional hockey games with them. Billy is survived by his wife Chickie, their two children Thomas and Julia, as well as a large extended family who love and miss him. He was predeceased by both of his parents.
