Incident

Patrolman Walters succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained three days earlier while he and his partner attempted to serve a warrant on a juvenile suspect. The officers went to the boy's work and informed him he had to go to jail. The boy dropped a broom, bent behind a workbench, and came up firing a .22 caliber revolver. Patrolman Walters was struck twice and mortally wounded. Both he and his partner were able to return fire and kill the suspect. Patrolman Walters had been with the agency for three years and had also served with the Washoe County Sheriff's Department, Carlin Police Department and Nevada Youth Training Center.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife and five children.
