Incident

Deputy Sheriff S.D. Sheldon succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained six days earlier.

He was shot in the head while collecting the license tax from a saloon in Toano, Nevada.

Deputy Sheldon also served as the Constable for Toano Township.

Toano, also referred to as Toana, became a ghost town in 1906 after traffic from Idaho and the south ceased with the completion of the Oregon Shortline Railroad.

Thank you Jim. Please let me put my name down with you. I can't help but wonder if Deputy S. D. Sheldon had also served in the American Civil War.
