Incident
Officer Cedric Peterson succumbed to injuries sustained six days earlier in a motorcycle crash at Market Street and Chambers Street. At 1:15 am, Officer Peterson was driving on routine patrol when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the car took him to City Hospital and then fled the scene without giving his name. Officer Peterson died six days later. The driver turned himself in and was charged with manslaughter. Officer Peterson had been with the Newark Police Department for 3.5 years and was assigned to the Traffic Division.
