Incident
Police Officer Stanley Brock succumbed to wounds he received on August 3, 1876.
Officer Brock entered the home at 140 Clinton Avenue in Newark at 5:20 a.m., when he noticed a grate missing from a window. When he walked up the stairs and called for the men to stop, one of the subjects fired at him. He was transported to St Barnabus Hospital, where he passed away five days later.
The two suspects were apprehended and sentenced to death. On the morning of the execution date, one of the men committed suicide. The other suspect was hanged.
