Patrolman Bustard was transported to Mountainside Hospital by the Montclair Volunteer Ambulance Unit. He was pronounced dead at 8:27 am of multiple head injuries. The driver who caused the crash was charged with death by auto. Patrolman Bustard was a United States Army veteran of WWII. He had served with the Montclair Police Department for 23 years.

I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Patrolman Bustard gave the Montclair Police Department 23 years.
Thank you for your service to the Montclair community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
