Biography
Svjetlana was born in Bosnia-Herzegovina. She graduated from Dr. Antun Barac High School in Croatia. She came to the United States as a refugee in 1998. Here, she attended Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire, and then Andover College in Portland, Maine. She joined the Cheshire County House of Correction in 2013 after receiving her certification as a New Hampshire Corrections Officer. Svjetlana leaves behind her son Jacob, 13, her brother Svjetlan Jovic, her large extended US family, and sisters in her homeland. Jacob was the love of her life. They enjoyed numerous outdoor activities, movie nights, and many special quiet moments. Svjetlana was respected and loved by those that she worked with. She cared deeply for her family and friends, including the inmates. Always wanting to improve the lives of those she touched, she worked hard to make others feel good about themselves. She will be dearly missed by her family and those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her kindness.
