Incident

Conservation Officer Edward Starback was killed in an airplane crash in Lake Michigan while he flying from Boyne City to Beaver Island to pick up a boat he had left there the previous week. His two adult sons, who were in town for a family reunion, were accompanying him at the time. It is believed the civilian pilot suffered a fatal heart attack during the flight, causing the plane to plunge into the lake approximately one mile off of the shoreline at Good Hart. All four men were killed.
