Incident
Corporal Norbert Szczygiel was shot and killed after responding to a call of a man with a gun inside a bar. When Corporal Szczygiel and his partner arrived, two other officers were already on the scene. The suspect had left the bar and crossed the street. The suspect and two officers exchanged gunfire. Corporal Szczygiel's partner exited the patrol car to assist and Corporal Szczygiel was shot and killed while still in the car, radioing for more units. The suspect was apprehended and convicted of manslaughter. Corporal Szczygiel had served with the Dearborn Police Department for seven years.

He was survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
