Incident

Officer Lipinski was shot and killed while inspecting a tavern at 3024 Trumbull Ave in Detroit. He encountered several men hanging out on the corner and told them to move on at 1:25 a.m. One of the men produced a .45-caliber pistol and shot Officer Lipinski. The 23-year-old suspect was apprehended, convicted of second-degree murder, and sentenced to 15 to 30 years. Officer Lipinski had served with the Detroit Police Department for almost two years and was assigned to the 2nd Precinct.

Survivors

He was survived by his expectant wife and daughter; his second daughter was born the day of his funeral.
