Incident
Deputy Sheriff Reuben Blackman was shot and killed while investigating a stabbing with another deputy on Crooker Road, one mile from State Highway, Route 1. The two deputies located the suspect at his home and informed him he would have to accompany them to the police station. The 43-year-old ex-convict was permitted to get his coat, but he returned to the door with a shotgun and fatally shot Deputy Blackman. The other deputy shot and killed the suspect. Deputy Blackman had served with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office for six years.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife, three sisters, three nephews, and two nieces.
