Biography

Retired Corrections Officer Robert Eugene Durfee, Jr., died by suicide on May 1, 2018 after 26 years of service. Raised in Duluth, Bob graduated from Morgan Park High School as a proud Wildcat; he then attended Mesabi Community College where he also played football before he proudly served in the US Army stationed in Mannheim, Germany as well as Leavenworth, Kansas. After the Army, he graduated from the police academy. He started his decorated and beloved law enforcement career by becoming a policeman for the Cumberland Police Department. He then became a Deputy with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. After he retired from the Sheriff’s Office, he became a Deputy Judicial Marshal for the State of Maine. He also worked security at Mercy Hospital. He was truly dedicated to law enforcement and his family. His favorite pastimes were family dinners, his two dogs and most of all his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Bob was a devoted husband of 21 years and an amazing father; his family was precious to him. Because he never missed a cheer competition, his daughters called him “the best cheer dad”. To his grandchildren, he was known as Paw Paw to the grandchildren, the apple of his eye was Gianna, who had him wrapped around her pinky, He was proud of being part of the Fond du Lac Reservation, he loved the Minnesota Vikings and was teased often at work. He was funny, compassionate, and well loved. He is missed by many and his legacy will live on through the love of his family.
