Incident
Lieutenant Benjamin Alexander was killed when a building collapsed. He was trailing a pickpocket through Chinatown when a building at 6 Beach Street collapsed. A total of 44 people were killed in the collapse, including an off-duty police officer who was patronizing the business inside. Lieutenant Alexander had served with the Boston Police Department for 16 years.

He was survived by his wife and six children.
