Incident

Sergeant John Shanahan was struck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic at the scene of an accident on the North Shore Road near the Lynn-Revere line.

He was taken to a hospital in Lynn where he died from his injuries the following day. The driver who struck him was convicted of manslaughter.

Sergeant Shanahan had served with the Revere Police Department for 25 years.

Sergeant Shanahan, it has been 96 years since you were taken from us. New England law enforcement continues to serve and protect and make life secure for our part of the country. I honor your 25 years of law enforcement service to the citizens of Revere.
