Incident

Special Officer Albert Hayes was killed in an automobile crash at the intersection of Dwight Street and Faille Avenue in Holyoke.

Around 1:00 a.m., another car struck his patrol car head-on while he was driving. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.

The driver was initially charged with operating his automobile in a manner to endanger the lives and safety of the public. The charges were later dropped.

Officer Hayes had served with the Massachusetts State Police for 12 years and was assigned to Troop B.

Incident Location
