Incident
Patrolman Edward Sawicki died from injuries sustained in a fall while on duty several years earlier. He had been involved in a pursuit and chased the vehicle into neighboring Marblehead, Massachusetts. The driver then fled on foot to a nearby seawall. As Patrolman Sawicki chased him over the seawall, he slipped and fell 8-feet onto boulders below. His back was broken as a result of the fall, and he remained a quadriplegic until his death several years later. Patrolman Sawicki had served with the Salem Police Department for 25 years.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife, two sons, mother, and brother.
