Incident

Warden Roy Bujol was fatally stabbed when three inmates attempted to escape from the parish jail. One of the inmates attacked Warden Bujol with a shank and stabbed him in one of the main arteries of his heart. Despite being mortally wounded, Warden Bujol, with the help of several trustees, was able to keep two of the suspects from escaping. He was then transported to the local hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds two hours later. The suspects pled guilty to second-degree murder. The 22-year-old inmate who stabbed him was awaiting trial on a murder charge. He was charged with the murder of a nurse he had abducted from the parking lot of a hospital where she worked. Warden Bujol had served with the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office for two years.
