Incident
Assistant Chief Penton suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after a foot pursuit of a suspect. He had just arrested the man for passing a stolen check. As he escorted the man to his patrol car the man suddenly broke free and fled on foot. Assistant Chief Penton pursued the suspect and apprehended him. Assistant Chief Penton collapsed after transporting the suspect to the jail. Assistant Chief Penton had served with the agency for 21 years.
