Incident
Sergeant Paretti was shot and stabbed to death when he went to the aid of a neighbor who was being robbed by seven teenage thugs on his front porch. Sergeant Paretti managed to shoot and critically wound one of the suspects. The other six were apprehended a few hours later. All seven were charged with Sergeant Paretti's murder. Three of the suspects were convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life. A fourth suspect was determined to be insane and committed in a state mental institution. The other three suspect's trial resulted in a mistrial.
