Incident
Corporal James Silva was killed when he struck a vehicle that turned in front of him as he was responding to a shooting call. Corporal Silva had served with the Shreveport Police Department for 9.5 years. A year earlier, he received an award for his part in saving a family from carbon monoxide poisoning.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
