Incident
Police Officer Theodore Devalcourt was shot and killed while assisting a St. Landry Parish sheriff's deputy in arresting a man at a home in Sunset. As the deputy went to the front door Officer Devalcourt stationed himself near the home. He was killed instantly when the man opened fire with a shotgun from a hiding spot beside the home.
The suspect was apprehended a short time later by a night policeman in Opelousas. He was executed by hanging on June 15th, 1932.
