Incident
Special Officer Marcus Martin was shot and killed while patrolling a section of town by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad tracks.
As he passed by a home the owner came out and confronted him. After exchanging words the man pulled out a pistol and fatally shot Officer Martin.
The town marshal immediately responded to the scene but the subject had already fled the scene. He was apprehended two weeks later in Columbus, Indiana.
Officer Martin had been appointed a special officer to assist the town marshal on weekend nights.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife and three children.
