Incident
Night Marshal Presta Vickery was shot and killed while attempting to arrest two men who were robbing the C.E. Brady men's clothing store. Marshal Vickery returned fire and chased the subjects, but they jumped into the Eel River and swam to safety. A subject was arrested a year later, but no additional information was found. Officer Vickery had served with the North Manchester Police Department for ten years.
