Incident

Patrolman Dennis Fitzgerald succumbed to injuries sustained four months earlier when he observed two men creating a disturbance in the street near the intersection of 44th Street and Indiana Avenue. As Officer Fitzgerald confronted the offenders, they turned on the officer and began attacking him. Both suspects were arrested. One suspect was executed and the other received 14 years in prison. Patrolman Fitzgerald served with the Chicago Police Department for 16 years.
