Incident

Patrolman Raymond Kelly was shot and killed while responding to a domestic incident in which a man just killed his wife and wounded another citizen at 5742 S State Street. When Patrolman Kelly arrived the offender opened fire, mortally wounding him. Other officers who arrived moments later shot and killed the suspect when he shot at them. Patrolman Kelly was assigned to the Wabash Avenue Station.
